A calmer instrument for the busiest ward.
We’re engineering a hot-swap power system for hospital workstations-on-wheels: a battery that changes without breaking a nurse’s stride. Prototype One is our first working proof of that idea, being built now toward a filmed demonstration in December 2026.

Fourteen rooms in a shift, and the cart runs out before the nurse does.
The idea came from a hospital floor, not a lab bench: watching how much of a nurse’s attention gets spent on the equipment rather than the patient. A cart that needs charging mid-shift. A login that eats into the couple of minutes budgeted for each room. Small frictions, repeated dozens of times a day.
The Approach
The battery leaves. The shift doesn’t stop.
Hot-swap cassette
A battery cassette sized for a full shift. We’re targeting 480Wh, enough to clear 13+ hours against a typical thin-client draw, swapped in under a minute with no power-down.
DC-direct delivery
Power routed straight to a 12V thin client, skipping the inverter most carts carry: less waste, one fewer thing to fail mid-round.
Built to stay upright
Dock low, shelf high: the cassette sits near the base for stability, the working surface sits at height, and a five-point star base carries the weight underneath.

Prototype One, built in the open.
This is a proof-of-mechanism build, a works-like mule, built to demonstrate the swap and the power architecture with real runtime data. We’ve also proposed the harder problems as an RMIT engineering capstone project, still awaiting a response, more in Articles.

Origin
Started on a ward round.
Khayri Medical Technologies started with time spent on hospital floors, watching workstation carts up close, on real rounds. Prototype One is the first attempt at fixing one specific piece of that friction, the battery. Everything else about the cart came second.
